The South West has had a wide range of electric transport projects – some ran successfully for many years, but some didn’t get off the ground at all.

According to TheTrams.co.uk, “There are eight tramway/light rail systems in the UK—in Croydon, London’s docklands, Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Newcastle, Nottingham and Blackpool” – but they appear to have confined themselves to urban systems. For example they’ve omitted the Seaton Tramway.

More recently Edinburgh needs to be to the list of modern tramways, and there is also the proposed Bradford to Leeds interurban  tramway.
